We have a very special Christmas version of the Chamber Spotlight for you. Today we are spotlighting Andy.
This sweet doggo is more than just a pretty face. Andy is a certified therapy dog and will be working at both the Pampa and Canadian locations of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home. This six month old labradoodle has been training since he was eight weeks old to comfort families as needed. With 25 different commands, from the way he greets families to how he interacts with them, Andy is a versatile employee.
Brad Pingel, from Carmichael-Whatley was able to see Andy in action just last week. Two young women came in to view the video Brad had built featuring photos of their father who had passed away. Andy sat on the couch between the girls as they watched the video for the first time. Brad said you could just feel the calmness that Andy brought into the room. He said Andy helped the young women so much that they asked if he could meet with their mother right before the service. “That’s exactly what we want him to do,” said Brad. “Not a nuisance. Those that don’t like dogs, we won’t force Andy on them.” They just want to offer another way to comfort those in mourning.
Another way Carmichael-Whatley has to comfort families is a Tree of Remembrance. The tree will have an ornament for every family they’ve served this year with their name on it, a simple way to remember a loved one this Christmas.
Join Andy and the staff of Carmichael-Whatley on Sunday, December 9, 2018, for the lighting of a Tree of Remembrance. This special event is a time to honor and remember loved ones who are no longer with us. The tree lighting will take place from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at their Pampa location and from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. at their Canadian location. Andy will be there to comfort and spend time with families.
